too lazy to build a blog

i wanted somewhere to put my thoughts, but not enough to build it by hand. so i got ai to help, then spent ages making it sound like me.

i wanted somewhere to put my thoughts. nothing serious, just the stuff i figure out, half ideas, things i want to remember later. the normal reason anyone starts a blog.

the problem was never really the writing, it was the building. pages, routing, making it not look like a default template, all of that. i could not be bothered. i wanted the thoughts, not the setup.

i wasnt too lazy to write, i was too lazy to build the place to write.

here is the thing though. i already use claude and codex every single day at work. so the obvious move was just, why not get them to help me build the place too. let the ai do the boring wiring, the astro setup, the components, while i sit there and decide how it should actually feel.

chosen

let ai do the wiring

i describe what i want, it sets up the pages and components, i review the result.

rejected

hand build every page myself

more satisfying maybe, but id never actually start, the thoughts would just stay in my head.

why

i care about how this reads and feels, not about typing out boilerplate. so i kept the part i care about and handed off the part i dont.

the slightly ironic part

so yeah, im using ai to help write the posts as well. which sounds backwards for a personal blog, i know. but the whole point is they still have to sound like me and look like i wrote them. the voice stays mine even when the help isnt.

which means a lot of the actual work is pulling the ai back. it always wants to make things sound smooth and confident and a little bit linkedin. i dont type like that.

draft → me

i am leveraging using ai to create high-impact content and unlock my full writing potential. help write this, but it still has to sound like me.

notice how the punctuation is all off in this post by the way. no capitals, commas in odd places, sentences that just keep running on. * theres a living voice file in the repo that future agents read first, so the writing keeps drifting back towards how i actually talk instead of getting tidied into something generic. thats not broken, thats genuinely how i type online, so thats what this should look like. if it reads too clean and too correct, its not me anymore.

and it wont always look right. some posts are going to come out a bit wrong, too polished or a bit janky, and i think thats okay. this exact one took a few goes to get right, the early drafts read like a product announcement.

the image

i still dont want a big hero image sitting at the top of every post, but i do like the one that got generated while building this. right mood, phone, laptop, voice note, dark desk, tiny orange glow. it is also, generously, almost not accurate at all.

A dark desk with a phone recording a voice note beside a laptop showing an abstract draft.

this is about 3% accurate

i keep this inside the post instead of using it as a hero. nice atmosphere, not really my desk.

how it actually works

the flow is a loop, not a straight line. i throw an idea at the ai, it drafts, the build catches the dumb mistakes, and the netlify preview is where i decide if anything goes back round for another pass. press play.

press play
i throw an idea
ai drafts the post
build checks it
netlify preview
merge

same branch, build, preview, review loop as the rest of the site, just for words.

the preview is the whole thing. its where i decide if it sounds like me, and honestly whether the post should even exist.

where this is going

i want to keep expanding this. more components, more little interactive bits, a bit of anime.js here and there. the goal is playful, interactive, and actually useful, not just a wall of text you scroll past.

mostly though im just learning. there are so many new ways to use ai well that i had no idea existed even a few months ago, and figuring those out is honestly half the reason this place exists at all.
